Is the WordPress Plugin Repository Worth the Hassle?

If you’re new to developing WordPress plugins, submitting your plugin to the repository might seem like a no brainer. While there are definitely some significant benefits to having your plugin in the official repository (exposure being the biggest one that comes to mind), there are also some major drawbacks that are worth considering. This post by Brenda Barron over at Freemius is a fantastic overview of the reasons why the repository might not be the best idea for your new plugin. It’s very thoughtful and was written with the developer (rather than the user) in mind.
